Macmillan’s new Help About service is now open for referrals.
A group of 10 fully trained volunteers are able to offer people affected by cancer practical help at home or in the local community. We also have another smaller group of volunteers who will be doing their training in early July.
The team are there to help lighten the load for people affected by cancer. Typical tasks volunteers might help with include:
- Light housework (ironing, laundry, vacuuming, etc.)
- Walking the dogs
- Picking up a prescription
- A cup of tea and a chat
They can support anyone aged 18 or over, who is registered with GPs in Shepton Mallet, Castle Cary, Bruton, Wincanton and Queen Camel, and can support carers as well as people living with cancer.
Volunteers can not administer medication, provide childcare, personal care or manual handling.
