Get Outside in Somerset!
6th Jul 2021

Helping local people gain the confidence to get back outdoors and move more

The Get Outside in Somerset project is a joint initiative from Somerset Activity and Sport Partnership, Community Council for Somerset, Somerset Wildlife Trust, and Spark Somerset funded by Somerset County Council Public Health.

For lots of people, the Covid-19 pandemic has created many barriers to getting outside. It has caused unprecedented disruption to people’s lives, and impacted on engagement in physical activity. According to Sport England’s Active Lives Survey data for Somerset, 23% of the county are inactive, doing less than 30 minutes of activity a week.

The Get Outside in Somerset project is supporting people across Somerset to get outside and move in more ways that suit them. This could be anything from a short walk or a spot of gardening, to taking part in water sports or litter picking in a local beauty spot.

We are bringing together organisations from across the county to offer local residents the support they need to build their confidence, get outside and enjoy the wonderful landscapes that Somerset has to offer.

The Get Outside in Somerset website is full of tips, advice and guidance on how to get active outdoors. It includes a variety of activities, events and challenges, as well as information on a range of health and wellbeing topics.

We are delighted to support this new campaign by encouraging people to get outside and get active by volunteering and highlighting the diverse range of opportunities available in Somerset.

We are also looking for Get Outside in Somerset Ambassadors to tell their inspiring stories and help promote our campaign via social media, local press, blogging and more! If you share our passion for physical activity and want to encourage people to get outdoors and move more, please get in touch.
