The Balsam Centre is a healthy living centre that has provided community-based, participatory, purposeful and life-changing activities that improve people’s well-being.
What started as the vision of a single mother with mental health challenges has become a community venture which has supported the lives of people in Wincanton for over 20 years.
The Centre hosts many support groups and activities, including Memory Lane. Set up in 2015, the support group is for people with mild to moderate dementia, and their carers.
The Balsam Centre are looking for a project worker with experience of dementia
to plan, set up and run a weekly social and support group that benefits the people who attend.
The post-holder will accept people referred into the group through the Centre’s referral process, following assessment. They will liaise with carers/family to understand and agree the level of need for each participant, including care, safety, and any travel arrangements. They will also plan sessions creatively using seasonal and sensory activities, and order and manage resources for the group.
The successful candidate will have previous experience of caring for people with dementia, or lived experience. They will have group work experience with a similar client group e.g. dementia, or elderly people with long term conditions, and an understanding of the challenges which may be faced by carers of people with dementia.
