LGBTQ+ Inclusion Workshop

Date: Wednesday, 3 December

Learn more about the experiences of the LGBTQ+ community when accessing services and support.

When developing our services, it’s important that we’re as inclusive as possible, and that we understand the barriers that may exist preventing people from accessing the support they need.

Join us for this online workshop, led by Diversity Trust, where we will explore the history of the Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Trans (LGBTQ+) community in the UK, as well as language, terminology, definitions and the experiences of discrimination.

The session will include:

  • Key legislation relevant to sexual orientation and gender identity
  • Timeline of LGBTQ+ rights in the UK
  • Law reform, including the current legal framework
  • The social climate for LGBTQ+ people
  • Impact of hate crime and discrimination
  • How to build LGBTQ+ inclusive organisations

By the end of the workshop, participants should have:

  • A greater understanding of LGBT+ people’s experience in accessing services and support
  • An increased awareness of best practice, and available tools, for reaching and engaging LGBT+ people and communities
  • Knowledge about the sources of specialist support available for LGBTQ+ people
  • Increased confidence to share knowledge, best practice and ways to engage with LGBTQ+ people

Tickets are freely available to staff and volunteers of voluntary, community, faith and social enterprise (VCFSE) organisations working in Somerset.
