Sexual Health and C-Card Training

Gain practical sexual health knowledge and become a trained C-Card partner supporting young people.

As professionals supporting young people, you play an important role in helping them access accurate information, trusted guidance, and appropriate support around sexual health and relationships.

This practical and interactive training session will build your confidence and knowledge around key sexual health topics, while equipping you to become a registered C-Card partner.

By the end of the session, participants will have completed the training required to become a C-Card partner. A short follow-up process after the training will support you to get fully set up on the online system and ready to issue C-Cards within your setting.

Session Overview

1. Contraceptive Methods Demystified:

We will break down the various contraceptive options available. From pills to patches, intrauterine devices (IUDs) to condoms, we’ll ensure you have a solid understanding of each method

2. Common STIs and Their Impact:

Sexually transmitted infections (STIs) are a reality for many young individuals. We’ll discuss the most prevalent STIs, their symptoms, and the importance of prevention.

3. Navigating Sexual Health Services:

Our local sexual health services play a vital role in supporting young people. You’ll gain insights into available resources, clinics, and how to guide those seeking help.

4. The C-Card Scheme:

We’ll explore the background of the evidence-based C-Card programme. What is it, why it is an important tool in reducing unintended teenage pregnancies and the reduction of STIs. Within this section we will:

  • Look at what makes Quality Registration Consultations
  • Key messages about condoms
  • Correct condom use: Demonstrations and tips, including ‘let’s have a go’
  • Walk through the Web-Based Data Collection System to include: Registering and issuing condoms; Outline and demonstrate C-Card+ and our over 16’s Self-Registration; Understand how the click-and-collect features operates

What to expect

The day will include a mixture of information sharing, group discussion, practical activities, and hands-on exercises to help build confidence and develop skills you can use in your role straight away.

Whether you are new to sexual health work or looking to refresh your knowledge, this session will provide a supportive space to learn, ask questions, and connect with others working with young people across Somerset.
