Children & Young People's Mental Health Network

Facilitated by Spark Somerset, the network brings together organisations from across the county to collaborate, share learning and create positive change for Somerset’s young people.

Why get involved?

Our members meet regularly and have the opportunity to: 

• Connect and collaborate with peers
• Stay informed through our weekly email featuring events, funding, training, services and research 
• Access training and development opportunities tailored to the needs of the sector 
• (Coming soon!) Take part in small group problem-solving sessions by bringing real challenges for peer support 

Strategic representation 

We amplify the collective voice of the network on a number of strategic boards including the Mental Health Learning and Disabilities board, Somerset Safeguarding Children’s Partnership Quality and performance subgroup, and the Somerset ICS Mental Health board. 

A key activity has been our work with the local ICB to improve NHS procurement processes for mental health services. The resulting report shows how commissioning can be made fairer and more accessible — especially for smaller or emerging VCFSE organisations. 

Key recommendations include: 

• Simplifying application processes and scoring guidance
• Promoting innovation and co-design
• Strengthening communication and capacity-building
• Embedding continuous improvement and collaboration 

New funding coming soon!

Next, we’ll be launching a small grants fund for grassroots organisations which has been commissioned by the ICB. Alongside this, we’ll provide support to applicants – building their skills and confidence to apply larger procurement opportunities. Watch this space!
