Somerset charity, Donate IT, has reached a remarkable milestone.
2,000 recycled devices—including laptops, tablets, and phones—have been redistributed to those who need them most. This milestone was proudly celebrated at a special event in November, where Spark Somerset’s Digital Inclusion Manager, Siobhan Wilson, joined Donate IT and partners and supporters to mark the achievement.
Through the Spark iT Digital Inclusion Project, supported by Spark Somerset, Siobhan and her team have played a vital role in helping distribute some of these devices, ensuring individuals across Somerset have access to the technology they need to stay connected, learn, and thrive.
As Sara, one recipient, puts it:
“Thank you for the laptop…it’s a real lifeline. As I learn to live with fibromyalgia and my PTSD at home, I can now access the various help and mental support I need through online groups using teams. As I progress, I hope to re-engage with technology to have a more fulfilling life and hopefully learn skills, study and become more independent and improve my chances of returning to work.”
Reflecting on the milestone, Siobhan said:
“To those who receive these life-changing pieces of equipment, they are invaluable. I am constantly inspired by the commitment of so many people in Somerset to really make a difference to people’s lives by working together in true partnership and collaborating to make change. It feels like hope.”
Simon Barfoot, who leads Donate IT, expressed his gratitude to Siobhan for her contribution to the celebration:
“Your speech added something very special to the event. It was engaging and enlightening—the kind of talk that stays with people long after they’ve left the room.” He added:
“Your presence helped bring that community spirit to life. We really value the relationship we’ve built and look forward to continuing our journey together as we work to reduce the digital divide across the South West.”
This milestone is a testament to the power of collaboration and the dedication of countless individuals and organisations working together to tackle digital exclusion. With every device donated and redistributed, lives are being transformed—one connection at a time.
