An introduction to our new training programme with Evenbreak.
Reasonable adjustments are ways in which we can change our working environment or arrangements to make sure what we do is as accessible and inclusive as possible. From members of staff and volunteers to service users, these changes should remove disadvantages at all levels.
But how do we get started, and what can we do to ensure we’re making our services truly accessible?
Join us for the first session in our Disability & Reasonable Adjustments Training programme. Hosted in partnership with Somerset Council and delivered by Evenbreak, these sessions are designed to strengthen confidence in identifying and removing everyday barriers experienced by disabled people.
Grounded in the social model of disability, this first session will explore how barriers often emerge through systems, environments, communication, and assumptions rather than through a person’s condition itself. We will look at how this shows up in everyday interactions with service users and volunteers, and discuss practical approaches for creating more inclusive experiences.
This session will also focus on confident conversations about disability – including how to approach discussions supportively, reduce uncertainty, and create safer spaces for people to discuss barriers and support needs.
Alongside the core session content, we will also:
- Demonstrate the Best Practice Portal
- Explain the portal licence offer and additional resources available throughout the programme
This training is ideal for professionals supporting disabled people or community programmes who want to build confidence in practical disability inclusion and inclusive communication.
About the trainer
Rox Steel (they/she) is Head of Training and Consultancy at Evenbreak, where they work with employers to improve recruitment and workplace experiences for disabled and neurodivergent people.
Rox supports organisations to move beyond good intentions and policy statements and into practice that genuinely works. Their expertise spans inclusive recruitment, accessibility, and everyday employer behaviour, with a strong focus on helping teams understand what inclusion looks like in real situations, not ideal ones.
Bringing clarity, warmth, and a disarming sense of humour to complex conversations, Rox creates space for honesty and learning, helping people feel capable of engaging with change rather than anxious about getting it wrong.
Free tickets are solely available to VCFSE staff and volunteers from organisations based or operating in Somerset.
If you are registering for this event and we cannot verify that you’re from a Somerset-based charity, your booking will be cancelled.
