In partnership with Skills for Life – Skills Bootcamps, and Yeovil College, we are delighted to be hosting a VCFSE Leadership & Management Bootcamp in January 2027:
Skills Bootcamp – Leadership & Management
Who is it for?
This in-person course is aimed at employees working in a Somerset VCFSE organisation who are managing paid staff (as well as volunteers) as a new or existing manager, and wish to develop or refresh their skills but are not seeking an accredited qualification.
Organisational commitment:
Your employee will be released to attend ten in-person training days, one day a week for 10 weeks (9.30am-4:00pm, including a 30 minute lunch break) participating in the day’s tutor-led sessions and completing an action and accountability workshop. Beginning 12 January 2027 – 23 March.
Learner commitment:
Attend each of the ten in-person training days, and complete the all tasks outlined in the action and accountability workshops.
Module 1: Intro to Emotional Intelligence
Emotional intelligence, situational intelligence, self-awareness, managing your emotions and building empathy.
Module 2: Understanding Self & Others /Personality Profiling
Personality assessment based on MBTI/Insights/DISC. Exploring differences and preferences.
Module 3: Effective Communication
Styles and methods of communication, and the importance of body language, tone of voice, and more.
Module 4: Conflict Management
Exploring TKI model of dealing with ‘conflict’, and assessing personal approaches to conflict.
Module 5: Management & Leadership Styles, Traits and Qualities
Exploring leadership styles, motivational theory, managing ‘up’ and building trusting relationships.
Module 6: Role of Leaders & Managers in the Employee Lifecycle
Exploring the importance of values and behaviours in the workplace.
Module 7: Teamwork & Motivation
Understanding team dynamics and Belbin’s team roles, and the role of the manager in team development phases.
Module 8: Coaching & Mentoring in the Workplace
Learning the GROW coaching model, and how to set targets and give feedback.
Module 9: Building Authentic, Person-Centred Leadership
Facilitation techniques, with a focus on expectation management, communication and objectives.
Module 10: Course Review/’Sweep up’ & Graduation
Costs and subsidies:
For organisations with under 250 employees*, the total value for this course is £3,700 per participant, but is being offered at a subsidised rate of £370 thanks to funding from the Department for Work & Pensions. However, further subsidy may be available for smaller for VCFSE organisations where cost would be prohibitive to attendance:

*There are just 10 places available on this cohort, so in the first instance we’d request no more than 2 applicants per organisation. In the event of oversubscription, we will prioritise 1 place per organisation with additional applicants added to a waiting list.
