Find out what support is available to the children and young people you work with.

14,352 children and young people (aged 17 and under) were reported to be in alcohol and drug treatment between April 2023 and March 2024 – a 16% rise from the previous year.

Join us for this in-person training session, where we will learn about the support available to children and young people in Somerset who are using substances, or impacted by substance use.

We’ll cover:

  • Educations/awareness of substances
  • Problem use and signs to look out foor
  • Current day trends
  • How to have a conversation with someone about drugs and drug use
  • Harm reduction
  • Parental use and impact

About the trainer

Your trainer for this session will be Mickey Hickman, manager of Somerset Drug and Alcohol Service (SDAS)‘s Young Person and Family team. As a former primary school teacher, Mickey has experience working with children and young people in educational settings. Her lived experience of substance and alcohol misuse means she is passionate about teaching others about risks, and how to get support.

Tickets for this session are solely available to staff and volunteers from voluntary, community, faith and social enterprise (VCFSE) organisations working in Somerset, and will be of particular interest to those supporting children and young people in the county.
